September is one of our favorite months in Laguna Beach. The summer crowds start to thin, the light turns a little more golden, and the town settles into a slower, more local rhythm, which also means our community calendar fills up with the kind of events that make this place feel like home. Here are four we're especially excited about this month.
There's something special about hearing a song performed by the person who wrote it, especially in a room small enough to catch every lyric. Laguna Beach Beer Company's Writers Round brings together local and touring singer-songwriters for an intimate "in the round" set, where each performer takes turns sharing original music and the stories behind it. It's casual, unplugged, and exactly the kind of evening that reminds you why Laguna's creative community punches so far above its weight.

Thirteen years in the making, this documentary tells the story of Rich Harbour, the shaper behind Harbour Surfboards, one of the longest continuously running surf shops in the world. Through archival footage and firsthand accounts, the film traces how one shaper's craft shaped generations of Southern California surf culture. It's a fitting story for a coastal town built on the same love of the ocean, and Rivian's South Coast Theater is a beautiful, intimate spot to catch it.

On Sunday, September 13th from 1–2pm, Laguna Art Museum hosts The Musical Reunion, an elegant program of 17th- and 18th-century chamber music performed on period instruments. Baroque violinist Ken Aiso, viola da gamba player David Garrett, and harpsichordist Sonia Lee bring works by Buxtehude, Handel, Bach, and Rameau to life in one of Laguna's most beautiful cultural spaces. The concert is free for Laguna Beach Live! and Laguna Art Museum members, and $14 for non-members, and reservations are recommended. If you arrive early or stay after, take advantage of the complimentary docent-led art tour while you're there.

Tucked into one of Laguna's canyons, Bluebird Canyon Farms is a working urban farm that offers a rare glimpse of the town's agricultural roots. A tour here is a nice reminder that Laguna Beach has always been about more than the coastline — it's a community shaped by the land as much as the sea. It's a great outing for families, garden lovers, or anyone curious about where some of the produce on local menus comes from.
